According to health experts, many times pregnant women are more likely to complain of increased uric acid in the body. Even during pregnancy, high levels of uric acid can harm both the mother and the baby.

What is uric acid?


Uric acid is made from body cells and our diet which is excreted from the body through urine. The kidneys usually filter uric acid and pass it out of the body through the toilet but when uric acid is made in the body or the kidneys are unable to filter it, the level of uric acid in the blood increases which accumulates in the bones which is the main cause of bone pain.


1. Q. What diseases can occur during pregnancy due to high uric acid?


A. Uric acid increase is also called hyperuricemia. This causes pain in the joints. It can also make your blood and urine very acidic. If women have high levels of uric acid in the first trimester of pregnancy, a serious disease called pre-eclampsia occurs.

2. Q- What are the possible harms of uric acid increase during pregnancy?


A. It is said that if the uric acid level in the first three months of pregnancy is high, then women develop a serious disease called pre-eclampsia. Also, their risk of gestational diabetes is increased.


3. Q- What are the risks to the baby due to increase in uric acid during pregnancy?

A. If the amount of uric acid in the body of pregnant women is excessive, it can also harm the baby. Babies' weight is affected, being overweight or endangering the baby's life in the womb or after birth. In addition, children are at risk of developing high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes in the future.


4. Q- What should be the level of uric acid in pregnancy?

A. Uric acid levels in normal women range from 2.5 to 5.6 mg / dL.

At the same time, during the first trimester of pregnancy, uric acid levels in healthy women range from 2 to 4.2 mg / dL. Its levels increase from 2.4 to 4.9 mg / dL over the next three months.

Uric acid can range from 3.1 to 6.3 mg / dL in the third trimester.
