Alerted by a tip-off from a reliable source, a police team of SOG assisted by officers from Bagdogra Police Station, detained a red Hyundai i-20 vehicle bearing registration number WB74AZ/0xxxx at the Bhuttabari area around 21.45 hrs on Thursday night (23.09.21).
There were three persons inside the vehicle, and they have been identified as Umesh Chettri (43), s/o Late Bir Bahadur Chettri of Panwar Busty, Ward No. 7, Malbazar in Jalpaiguri district; Md Raju Sheikh (32), s/o Md Sufir Uddin Sk; and Mustafa Khan (26), s/o Imuj Khan. The latter two are residents of Naya Busty of Kaliachowk in Malda district.
When the car and the trio were searched in the presence of Executive Magistrate, a plastic packet containing 280 grams of brown sugar was recovered and seized from their joint possession.
The three were arrested and their car impounded. A specific case has been initiated against them at Bagdogra Police Station under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
The three suspects will be presented before the Ld Court today. Necessary follow up actions are being taken.
