A 1-year-old dog without a backbone is now learning to walk in Florida with a set of custom-made prosthetic legs.
Dr. Marta Sanchez-Emden of the Center for Animal Health and Rehabilitation in South Miami said the dog, a German shepherd breed rescued by the Picolini Animal Rescue Agency in Coconut Grove, was born without hind legs.
The dog was rescued from a backyard in April and the rescue team worked with the Animal Health and Rehabilitation Center to get the dog back on its feet.
A representative from the Valverde Rescue Group said the dog was happy and enthusiastic about getting his legs back.
He added that the dog is currently becoming accustomed to walking on its new legs and will soon be available for adoption.
