A team of Malda RPF on a tip-off reached the platform number three of the Kolkata-bound train Malda station on Tuesday night and recovered seven cages from a young man in the S8 coach of the train. There were 512 birds in that cage.
Malda RPF inspector VB Sharma said the youth had bought a ticket from Katihar and boarded the train. That ticket was cut short. We already had information from a special source that as soon as the train entered the platform number three, our RPF personnel got on the sleeper coach number 7 and searched it and caught the young man with a bird in his hand. However, it is not yet clear where the young birds were taken from. However, the young man is involved in trafficking. The young man we caught was handed over to the Malda Forest Range Officer.
Forest Department Malda Range Officer Sujit Kumar Chattopadhyay said the RPF had recovered various species of birds from Malda Town Station. The rescued birds have been handed over to them. Among the birds are 52 Alexandria tia. Besides, plucked head, brown head and red breasted tiao have also been recovered. Four of the Suncourse Cage Bird and one Hill Autopsy.
