The Indian government's decision to ban 59 Chinese apps has been termed by the Indian media as a "strong message" amid the ongoing tension over the border between the two countries.

However, there is no mention of border dispute anywhere in the statement of the Government of India.  The statement said that these apps are 'harmful' to the sovereignty and defense of the country and they were also being 'threatened' with regard to data security and privacy.

The ban has been imposed after violent clashes on the disputed border in the Galvan Valley on 15 June.  In this skirmish, 20 Indian soldiers have been killed, while China has not made any official comment on its damage.

Ever since the news of the death of soldiers, many right-wing groups and social media users in India were demanding boycott of things made in China.

Chinese products, especially smartphones are very popular in India.
