Al-Shabaab's eight militants have been killed in a fierce encounter.  An official gave this information.  "The terrorists attacked a military base in Goof-Gadud Bura on Monday," the news agency Xinhua quoted Goof-Gadud Buri Governor Hasan Mayo Issac as saying to reporters.

In a briefing to the media, Isaac said, "Al-Shabaab militants tried to capture the base but were defeated."  Our army killed eight of their men in the encounter and we are now chasing the survivors.  Our troops have complete control over the city and the terrorists were driven away. '
The latest incident took place the next day after a car bomb blast in Galkayo Nagar, located in the middle of Mudug in Somalia.  Five people were killed and six people were injured in the bomb blast.  Al-Shabaab, al-Qaeda's ally, claimed victory in Monday's attack, saying eight Somali army soldiers were killed in the encounter.  There have been numerous encounters between the government army and al-Shabaab militants in the southern and central regions of Somalia after al-Shabaab was driven from the capital Mogadishu in August 2011 by the Somali army and the African Union army.
