So far, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, who has been claiming the right of Shiv Sena-BJP on the formation of Maharashtra government, has indicated the initiative on this.  A statement issued by the party said that if the BJP and Shiv Sena are unable to form a government, then we will form an alternative government.  The Nationalist Congress Party is going to meet its MLAs on Tuesday amidst the upsurge in the state.  It is believed that NCP Chief Sharad Pawar may give his green signal to the alliance with Shiv Sena after talks with MLAs in this meeting.

Another Congress leader Milind Deora has said that the governor should invite Congress-NCP to form the government.  There is also news that many MLAs of Maharashtra Congress are in favor of joining the government by supporting Shiv Sena.  It is being said that in-charge of Maharashtra Mallikarjun Kharge has spoken to Sonia Gandhi in this regard.  Although angry with Congress these days, former Mumbai president Sanjay Nirupam has warned the party high command that supporting Shiv Sena in the current political situation will prove disastrous for the party.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections were fought by BJP-Shiv Sena Mahayuti and Congress-NCP Grand Alliance.  Voting was held on 21 October and votes were counted on 24 October.  In the election, BJP won 105 seats, Shiv Sena won 56 seats, NCP 54 and Congress 44 seats.  After the election results, there was a dispute between the BJP and Shiv Sena over the chief minister's post and the share of power.  Because of this, no one claimed to form the government, because many of the 145 MLAs did not have any.
