Iran said on Saturday that it is now uranium enrichment up to five percent.  Iran has been steadily retreating from its commitments set out in the 2015 agreement with global forces.  The agreement stipulated a 3.67 percent limit for uranium enrichment, but after the US unilaterally withdrew from the agreement and re-imposed sanctions last year, Iran said it would no longer comply with the agreement.

Behroz Kamalwandi, spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said at the press conference that for his own needs and according to the order we have given, five percent are currently doing enhancements.  He said that Iran has the capacity to produce five percent, 20 percent, sixty percent and more for uranium enrichment.  Iran often keeps repeating these claims.

The five percent enhancement is higher than the limit set under the agreement but is less than the 20 percent enrichment Iran had made last time, and much less than the 90 percent enhancement for making weapons of war.  Stepping back from the deal, Iran on Thursday began enrichment work at the Furdo plant south of Tehran and engineers injected uranium hexafluoride gas into the plant.
