Indian captain Virat Kohli has been chosen as the Person of the Year 2019 by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). PETA India said in a statement that Kohli has made many efforts for better treatment of animals.

Virat Kohli wrote a letter to the authorities on behalf of PETA India to release the elephant Malti used for riding in Amber Fort. This elephant was badly beaten by eight people.

Kohli also went to meet injured dogs at an animal shelter in Bengaluru. He appealed to his fans to adopt animals instead of buying them.

PETA India Director (Celebrity and Public Relations) Sachin Bangera said, "Virat Kohli is doing a lot of work for animal rights. We appeal to everyone to take inspiration from them. '

Earlier, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, Kohli's wife actress Anushka Sharma, Hema Malini, R Madhavan have also received this honor.
