15-year-old Shefali Verma has become India's youngest player to score a half-century in international cricket.  He broke the 30-year-old record of Sachin Tendulkar.  Shefali smashed a 49-ball 73 in the first T20 International against the West Indies, helping the Indian team win by 84 runs here on Saturday.

Shefali, playing her fifth T20 International match, scored six fours and four sixes during his innings.  Shefali achieved this feat at the age of 15 and 285 days.  In this way she left behind the great cricketer Tendulkar, who made his first Test half-century at the age of 16 years and 214 days.

The Haryana-based youngster scored 46 runs in the second T20 International of his career against South Africa in Surat last month.  It is notable that thanks to the half-century innings of the opening pair of Shefali Verma (73) and Smriti Mandhana (67), the Indian women's team won an easy 84-run victory over the host West Indies.

Shefali and Mandhana of 15 shared a record 143-run partnership for the first wicket, helping India score 185 for four in 20 overs in the scheduled 20 overs at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium here.  After this, the Indian team allowed the West Indies to score 101 runs for 9 wickets and won.
