West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday that Swami Vivekananda's message of universal brotherhood in his address at the conference of the Parliament of Religions in Chicago is relevant even today.  Swami Vivekananda in his speech in 1893 introduced the western world to India and Hindutva.

Paying tribute to Swami Vivekananda, Banerjee tweeted, "Today marks 126 years of Swami Vivekananda's eloquent speech at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago.  His message of universal brotherhood is still relevant today.  My respectful tribute to this great saint. "The Trinamool Congress government has included Vivekananda's speech in the school curriculum of West Bengal Secondary Education.

The state government is about to launch the Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means Scholarship (SVMCMS) on Wednesday to help talented students from the economically backward classes.  Apart from this, the government led by Mamta Banerjee, together with the Ramakrishna Mission, has planned to organize several events to commemorate this day.
