Dayadra mandal  Kolkata:

On the patience of Jos Buttler (64 not out), England scored 271 for eight in the first innings on the first day of the fifth and last Test match of the Ashes series against Australia at the Oval. At stumps, Butler has hit six fours and three sixes in 84 balls, while Jack Leach returned 10 not out off 31 balls with one four. So far, 45 runs have been useful partnership between the two batsmen for the ninth wicket.

England started playing ahead of 169 runs for three wickets after tea. Captain Joe Root and Johnny Bairstow extended their innings. After tea, it seemed that the England team would be out soon, as they had lost five wickets within 47 runs during the third season. But Butler hit the 15th half century to save the hosts from being all out on day one.

After tea, England scored the fourth wicket as Root (57) at the score of 170, the fifth wicket as Bairstow (22) at the score of 176, the sixth wicket as Sam Curren (15) at the score of 199, 205. Scored his seventh wicket as Chris Woakes (2) and lost his eighth wicket as Jofra Archer (9) on a score of 226.
