Just 10 days after the amendment in the Motor Vehicles Act, the Gujarat government on Tuesday reduced several fines.  The state government has reduced the enhanced penalty of the Center from 25% to 95% for violation of traffic rules.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has cited humanitarian grounds as the reason for this.  It is believed that after seeing this, other states can also reduce the fine.  Explain that in the new motor vehicle act, states have been given the right to reduce some fines.

The new fines in Gujarat will come into effect from 16 September.  However, the government has not changed the penalty for driving drunk and breaking the traffic signal as the provision for change has not been given.  Explain that till now this act was not implemented in the Congress ruled states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab besides Gujarat.  The Karnataka government also says that if other states reduce the penalty, it will be considered there too.
