West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has declared the rural areas of the state as open defecation free and said that her government will now focus on solid waste management.

About 1.35 crore households in rural Bengal fall under the ambit of 'Mission Nirmal Bangla', which aims to declare all villages open defecation free by October 2.  Banerjee tweeted on Friday night, "You are very happy to tell me that rural Bengal is now open defecation free.

The Government of India has confirmed our achievement.  This was our campaign in the direction of clean and green environment and safe life. "He said," Our next phase will be on solid waste management. "
