Moitrish Majumdar, Kolkata:

The Football Association CONMEBOL-The South American Football Confederation has suspended Argentina's legendary footballer Lionel Messi for three months from international football. Messi has been banned due to allegations of corruption during the recently concluded Copa America Cup.

The South American football governing body also imposed a fine of 50 thousand US dollars (about 35 lakh rupees) on Messi. The penalty has been imposed on him following remarks made after Argentina's 2–1 win over Chile in July.

Messi and Argentina can appeal against this decision. Due to this ban, Messi will not play four friendships this year. 32-year-old Messi will not play against matches against Argentina in September and Mexico and in October, Germany and another team, which is yet to be selected.

No comments have been made on behalf of both Messi and the Argentine Football Union. Messi will not play in the first match of the South American World Cup qualifiers in March due to the red card found in the match against Chile.

Messi had to face this kind of situation for the second time in his career. In the match against Chile, they were sent out of the field after engaging with midfielder Gary Medal. Medals were also sent out of the ground. Messi did not attend the award ceremony as a protest.
