Dayadra Mandal,Kolkata;

There may be a delay in getting the salary of 1.76 lakh employees of BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited), a government telecom company struggling with financial crisis. If this happens, it will be for the second time within six months when the employees of BSNL will be deprived of getting salaries on time. Earlier, the employees had received salaries of the month of February in the third week of March. Explain that the employees of BSNL get salaries till the first working day of the last or next month of every month.

Why do you think?

According to the Times of India report, BSNL has told the government that the company does not have the money to continue working. According to the company, due to the lack of cash, it is difficult to get salary of about 850 crores for June. In a letter to Joint Secretary in the telecom ministry, Puran Chandra, senior general manager of BSNL's Corporate Budget and Banking Division, said, "Continuing the company's operations has become a matter of concern because of the difference in revenues and expenses of each month. . ' He further said that now it has reached a level where it would be almost impossible to continue the operation of BSNL without involving any substantial equity.

Why BSNL in this situation?

If BSNL is in these situations today there are many reasons behind this. The biggest reason is the company's expenditure on employees. Actually, about 55 percent of the total income of BSNL is spent on the salary of the employees. Every year, this budget increases by 8 percent. Under the easy language, the expenditure on salary is increasing and income is declining.

BSNL has been in deficit for the past 13 years, but is not giving its figures of losses. BSNL argues that it is a non-listed company, so there is no compulsion to make the data public. The data of BSNL came out only when the minister answered the questions in Parliament. In the year 2018, then Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha told Parliament that the annual loss of BSNL has gone up to Rs 7,992 crore in the financial year 2017-18.

Before that, the company's deficit in the year 2016-17 is Rs 4,786 crore. Accordingly, losses of Rs 3,206 crore have been incurred in just one year. According to the report of Kotak Institutional Equities, operational loss of BSNL has increased to Rs 90,000 crore in December 2018.
