Moitrish Majumdar ,Kolkata :

Young wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant and veteran batsman Ambati Rayudu, on Wednesday, placed India on the list of standby players for the ICC Cricket World Cup. Fast bowler Navdeep Saini has been given a place in the list of three standby players for the World Cup to be held in the UK from May 30. However, any of these players will get the chance to play only when a player in the 15-member main team is unavailable for injury or for any other reason.

Pant and Raidu had mixed reactions when they did not get a place in the 15-member team. Sunil Gavaskar expressed surprise at the exclusion of Pant, while Gautam Gambhir raised questions on not involving Rayudu. The ICC has terminated the process of selecting potential players. Although the BCCI will have the option of choosing any of these three or any other, the probability of such happening is very low.

A senior BCCI official told PTI, "Like the ICC Champions Trophy, we have three standbys. Rishabh Pant and Ambati Rayudu will be the first and second standby respectively, while Saini is included as the bowler in this list.
Rayudu was also targeted via Twitter if he did not get a place in the 15-member team. Raidu wrote on Twitter on Tuesday, "We have just launched three-dimensional glasses to watch the World Cup." Prior to this, the selection committee chairman MSK Prasad justified the decision to give Vijay Shankar the priority to Rayudu, saying that Vijay Shankar had "three-dimensional capacity Khalil Ahmed, Prashur Khan and Deepak Chahar will go with the team as net bowlers. Team management can be included in the team if they feel the need. Saini is also involved with the reserve players who are going with the team. The official said, 'Khalil, charge and lamp are not standby. In the case of bowlers, there might be a possibility of getting involved. But, either Rishabh or Raidu will be in batting. '

Meanwhile, there is a complete possibility that the players going to the World Cup will not have to go through the Yo-Yo test as the IPL will end on May 12. The official said, "Players are playing in the busy T-20 season. After the IPL finishes, they need time to recover. It is not that there is a lot of time between the two series and the test will be done. If you are tired then the result can be different. '
