Underlining that the state government has failed in controlling the pollution of the rivers of western Uttar Pradesh, the National Green Tribunal has asked to deposit five crore rupees as 'execution guarantee' for implementation of river protection action plan. A bench chaired by NGT Chairman Justice Adarsh Kumar Goyal directed the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh to personally pay attention to the affected people in Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Meerut, Baghpat and Ghaziabad districts on water supply.

The bench said that in view of the serious failure of the state of Uttar Pradesh and the worrisome situation of pollution in the rivers, due to adverse effects on people's health, it is reasonable to give us a sum of five crore rupees as execution guarantee. This amount will be given to Uttar Pradesh Government Central Pollution Control Board so that the work plan can be implemented within six months.

At the same time, the committee constituted to hand over the action plan told the NGT that the main reason for pollution of rivers in Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Meerut, Bagpat, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar districts is to fall into the unproductive sewage rivers .
