Moitrish Majumdar, Kolkata:

The Central Information Commission has instructed the Registrar General of India to calculate the population of the country that he should file an affidavit in this regard that he has not submitted data related to the population of OBC in the country.

The caste based final census was conducted in the year 1931 and on the basis of this year's data, the VP Singh government of the Center had announced to give 27 percent reservation to the OBC. Many groups have been pushing for caste based census so that proper representation of different castes in government services can be made.

Under the Right to Information, an application was made in the Prime Minister's Office and it was asked about the population of the other backward classes in the country. The municipal corporator in his reply told the Commission that it only figures for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes population Only submitted.

In all the cases of other backward classes, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is the nodal ministry. Although this Ministry has said that it is dependent on the deposited data of the Registrar General. Bhargava said that he directs the respondent that he should file an affidavit in the Commission, that the General Manager of India has neither information nor information about the population of OBC in the States and Union Territories.
