The Supreme Court has given great relief to Mulayam Singh Yadav, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party patron. A petition was filed in the Supreme Court, in which it was said that in order to order firing on kar sevaks in Ayodhya in 1990, they were asked to file a complaint against Mulayam. Supreme Court cancelled his petition.
This matter is related to November 1990 when Mulayam was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and VP Singh was the Prime Minister. By then, the BJP had been in existence for 10 years and had a stake in the Center's VP Singh government. In September 1990, LK Advani started the Rath Yatra in Ayodhya seeking a demand for a Ram temple. VP Singh was not in favor of it.
Because of the Rath Yatra of Advani, the atmosphere in Ayodhya became tense. On October 30, 1990, all devotees had reached Ayodhya for the bath of Kartik Purnima. All the workers of BJP and RSS were gathered in that place, which is considered as the birthplace of Lord Rama. Seeing this gathering, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh had given clear instructions to the police that there should not be any harm to the Babri Masjid.
