Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi reached the capital of Russia on Wednesday in the last phase of his four-nation visit. According to Pakistan's Foreign Ministry, the Foreign Minister is visiting Afghanistan, Iran, China and now in Russia from December 24 to 26, under the government's policy of establishing contacts in the neighborhood. He will meet his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov and other officials.
So far, he has traveled to Kabul, Tehran and Beijing where he meets with his counterparts and high level officials. In Kabul, he called on Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and External Affairs Minister Salahuddin Rabbani on Monday and then reached Iran to meet his Iranian counterpart Javad Jarif. On Tuesday, he was in Beijing and he met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
According to diplomatic sources, Qureshi told his hosts about the efforts being made by Pakistan to bring the Taliban to the negotiating table to achieve peace in the war-torn Afghanistan.
