Villagers in a district of Karnataka started emptying a lake after a HIV infected woman commited suicide in it

The ignorance towards HIV in the country, is seen in a latest example in the Hubli district of Karnataka. The villagers there are busy evacuating a lake after a HIV-infected woman commited suicide in the lake.

A HIV infected woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the lake a week ago in a village in Karnataka. After this, the villagers are busy plugging water from that lake.

Due to the use of water, HIV / AIDS infection will spread to them, people of Morabo village informed the officials that they will not use this lake unless fresh water is filled in it. The woman who committed suicide lived on the banks of the lake. The villagers say that she was infected with HIV. Local people used to use this lake's water.

Panchayat Development Officer B. Nagraj Kumar said, "After the disappearance of the woman for three days, her body was found on November 29. She was rotten and bloated. The villagers decided that till the lake is not filled with fresh water, they will not use this water. After getting information about the incident, District Panchayat Chief Executive Dr B Satish reached the spot and tried to explain to the people that HIV has never spread like this. They were also told to not waste water in such a way, but the villagers were stuck with their decision.
