Former Coal Secretary sentenced to three years jail by Delhi court

A Delhi court sentenced former coal secretary HC Gupta and two other bureaucrats for three years in a case of coal block allocation scam on Wednesday.

This scam happened during the reign of the UPA at the Centre. The other two bureaucrats who were sentenced by the court include KS Kropha and KC Samria. The court also imposed a penalty of 50-50 thousand rupees on three bureaucrats.

Government bureaucrats were later granted statutory bail so that they could file an appeal against the verdict in the higher court because their jail sentence was three years. Samria's lawyer had earlier informed the court that after convicting him, he had been suspended and was taken into custody on November 30.

After convicting three bureaucrats, the court said, "Such crimes are usually more dangerous to the society than normal crimes, because firstly, financial loss is very high and secondly the morale of people is affected.
