United States gave exemption to India on certain restrictions for development of Chabahar Port

The United States has given India exemption from certain restrictions for the development of Chabahar Port for strategic importance in Iran.

These exemptions include construction of a railway line connecting Chabahar Port with Afghanistan. One day before the decision was made, the Trump Administration had imposed the strongest restriction on Iran so far and it is too strict to give a discount. This exemption is being seen as the American recognition of India's role in the development of port in Oman Bay. Chabahar port has a very strategic importance in the development of Afghanistan which has suffered the tragedy of war.

India and Afghanistan signed an agreement in May 2016 to set up transit and transport corridors in all three countries. Under the agreement, Chabahar Port is to be developed as a regional hub for sea transportation in Iran. At the same time, there has also been an agreement for the development of various means of transport for movement of commodities and commuters in all three countries.

Indeed, the exemption received by India for the development of Chabahar port in Iran is inspired by President Donald Trump in the South Asian strategy in August. It has been said that India has a major role in returning to peace and development in Afghanistan.
