SC lifts ban on West Bengal government's decision to fund Durga Puja committees

Mamta Banerjee government of West Bengal received relief from the Supreme Court on Friday for giving Rs 28 crore to Durga Puja Committees. During the hearing on a petition challenging the state government's decision, the court refused to ban the decision of giving 10-10 thousand rupees to the worship committees. However, the court has issued a notice to the Mamta Government and asked for an answer within 6 weeks.
Justice Madan B. The bench of Lokur and Justice Deepak Gupta, however, refused to ban the state government's decision to fund Durga Puja committees. The Supreme Court was hearing a petition on Advocate Saurabh Datta, in which challenging Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's government's decision to pay 28 crores to 28,000 worship committees across the state has been challenged for Durga Puja.
On September 10, Mamata Banerjee announced a grant of Rs 10,000 each to 28 thousand worship committees across the state. Out of these 3 thousand committees in Kolkata city and 25 thousand committees are in other districts. The government will have to spend Rs 28 crores on this.
