Bharti Airtel sought more time to hand over the plan to eliminate Aadhaar e-KYC

Prior to the expiry of the deadline given to the telecom companies to hand over the plan to exit the Aadhaar e-KYC, a large telecom company has sought more time for this.

The company says that replacing the Aadhaar e-KYC, returning to the document based verification for mobile customers will not only be costly, but processes will be delayed and safety issues will also stand. The Indian Unique Identification Number Authority (UIDAI) has asked telecom companies to hand over their plans to stop the use of the Aadhaar till October 15 and adopt a new system of verification. The order was issued after the order of the Supreme Court.

Upon contact, Bharti Airtel spokesperson said that the company has handed over its response to the UIDAI. However, they did not give any details about this. E-mail sent to Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea Limited was not received. In the matter of telecommunication companies COAI has said that in this matter, the Department of Telecommunications should give a clear direction to the telecom companies about how to adopt measures on KYC.
