Centre directs NAFED to increase onion supply following its rising prices

Given the rising prices of onions in Delhi, the Center directed the cooperative NAFED to increase its supply from the buffer stock of onion. Mother Dairy has also been asked to reduce the onion prices by Rs 2 per kg at its successful brand shops. This decision was taken in a high level meeting chaired by the Secretary of Consumer Affairs Avinash Kumar Shrivastav.

According to the data, the prices of onions in Delhi's retail market have now reached Rs 30-40 per kg with limited supply. The Ministry said in the statement, "There is hope for a significant increase in the arrival of kharif crops within a week. This will increase its availability in the consumption areas of onion, which will help bring down prices.

It has been decided in the meeting that the buffer stock under the Price Stabilization Fund (PSF) should be increased by 2-3 times compared to the existing level of onions in Delhi so that there is no hindrance in the interim supply of the market in the market.

Here, the Agriculture Ministry also said that the kharif crop of onion has increased in comparison to last year and the arrival of fresh crop has started in Karnataka. In Asia, the biggest wholesale market for onion, in Lasalgaon, the price of onion has doubled to Rs 2,100 a quintal in the last one week.
